How to get free (or discounted) coffee

There’s nothing like it dopamine knock that comes with getting a good deal or discount on something, or better yet, getting it for free. It can make your whole day, really. I fondly remember a day last summer when I found $9 on the parking lot floor of my local ice cream parlor and then proceeded to pay for my ice cream with it. It made my double scoop of nut butter in a waffle cone taste so much better.

The good news? No need to pray to find shredded cash in a parking lot for big money savings. You can get the same satisfaction by saving a few bucks on a cup of coffee (or latte, matcha, or whatever your favorite drink is) at your local coffee shop.

Here are five ways you can get discounted or free coffee. No problem!

If you’re an avid Starbucks drinker and not yet a member of their rewards program, sign up now. It’s free. You’ll get complimentary brewed coffee and tea refills when you’re sitting in the store and earn one star (or two stars when paying with a preloaded Starbucks card) with every dollar spent on eligible purchases. You can later redeem those stars for free food and drinks. For example, 25 stars gets you an extra shot of espresso, and 150 stars gets you a drink or a snack (breakfast sandwich or parfait). More good news: Expect a free drink or meal on your birthday.

Are you more of the independent coffee shop type of person? There are also some savings for you. Download the cups app to find a participating Cups cafe available in cities like New York City, San Francisco and Nashville. Then stop by that cafe and you’ll get 15% off every cup of coffee purchased through the app. If you’re a daily coffee drinker, those savings can add up. real Quick. This is also a great way to find hidden spots and hidden coffee gems in your neighborhood.

Capital One Cafe

Here’s another way to save on coffee that many people don’t know about: Capital One customers get 50% off craft beverages, including coffee, at Capital One cafes across the country, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Washington DC. Everyone is welcome at the cafes, even if they don’t have a bank or a Capital One credit card. But if you have a Capital One card (debit or credit) and a cafe nearby, definitely take advantage of the sweet discount. Even better: Capital One Cafes is offering Craft drinks for $1 from Friday to Sunday until the end of August.

Ikea family

If you are a regular Ikea shopper, don’t fall asleep with the Ikea Family card. It offers many great perks, including exclusive discounts on selected products, access to workshops and events, a birthday surprise, free Ikea restaurant tickets for kids, and best of all: free hot coffee or tea with every visit. Yes really. Plus, it’s free to join, so you have nothing to lose and a lot of coffee to gain.

Dunkin’ Donuts Rewards

There are a few perks to joining the Dunkin’ Donuts rewards program. Members earn five points for every dollar spent. When you reach 200 points, you get a free drink. And, because gasoline isn’t cheap either, Dunkin’ has partnered with the Fuel Rewards program, which gives you a 15-cent-per-gallon discount on gas at Shell stations for every fifth drink you buy now through October 22, 2022.
