Traditionally, getting rid of under-eye puffiness the morning after a sleepless night filled with wine required spending at least 15 minutes lying under a cooling eye mask or massaging your face with an ice cube… and even then, it wasn’t always a perfect solution. But as one TikTok user discovered, Peter Thomas Roth’s Instant FIRMx Temporary Eye Tightener ($38) can make them completely disappear in three minutes, and the results are amazing.
While some bags under the eyes are genetic, more often than not they occur because fluid builds up under the eyes to create a little “puppy dog,” says Mona Gohara, MD, a Connecticut-based board-certified dermatologist. To decrease that puffiness, she says her best option is to turn to a product that helps constrict the blood vessels under the skin of her eyelids, which is exactly what Peter Thomas Roth’s serum does.
The formula features three patented ingredients that help immediately reduce puffiness and diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. There’s “Firm-A-Tite,” which helps lift, firm, and tighten skin; “Eyeliss”, a trio of peptides that calms puffiness under the eyes; and “Eye Regener”, which visibly reduces the appearance of bags.
A deeper dive into the ingredient list tells us that it has palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7, which helps reduce skin damage and inflammation; dipeptide-2, a small amino acid peptide that can penetrate deep into the skin to help with renewal and replenishment; ascorbic acid, one of the most potent forms of vitamin C that provides antioxidant protection and shine; and retinyl palmitate, a derivative of vitamin A that stimulates cell renewal and helps eliminate fine lines and wrinkles.
“This product works right away,” says Rachel Nazarian, MD, a board-certified dermatologist based in New York City. “The ingredients create an invisible film that tightens as it dries, keeping skin smooth and firm…it’s a good quick trick for people with fine lines and bags.” But, she adds, the results are only temporary, so they’ll only last as long as the product stays on the skin, and moisture and makeup can dilute or deactivate it.
If TikTok user Trinidad1967 is to be believed, the formula Really works to deliver immediate results. In a recent viral video (which has garnered 3.2 million likes and counting), he applied a light layer of Peter Thomas Roth Instant Eye Tightener on top of one of his dark circles, and by the end of the minute clip, it was totally invisible. “He squeezes and stays like that all day,” she says.

For what it’s worth, she’s not the only one singing the praises of the product. Reviewers have called it a “game changer” and “pure magic,” and the before and after photos on the brand’s website are stunning. Additionally, in a consumer study conducted by the brand on 25 women ages 35 to 65, 92 percent of participants agreed their eye area looked smoother and less puffy, and 88 percent found they looked tighter. Simply apply a thin layer to clean, dry skin (Dr. Nazarian recommends staying “dead-faced” while the product dries), and those under-eye bags will be but a vague memory.
