*Deep Preview Commercial Guy Voice*: From the brand that brought you acne polishing soap bars and an exfoliating gel that leaves every inch of your body smoother than a peeled mango, now experience a new kind of product for body care: a lotion that conveniently hydrates your skin in seconds.

In June, Soft Services launched Speed Soak Rehydrating Skin Gel ($28), a fast-absorbing body lotion that promises to hydrate skin without leaving behind any sticky or sticky residue. Meaning: You can apply it to your legs seconds before you put on your jeans or leggings, and it won’t feel like you’ve temporarily attached sheets of fabric to your calves and thighs. I’ve been testing Speed Soak for the past two months, slathering copious amounts of the gel formula on my legs, arms, back, pretty much anywhere that felt especially dry (and thanks to air conditioning and beach days, I have a lot of surface to work).

Even if I apply it to damp skin (i.e. after a shower or if I’m sweaty), my skin’s barrier absorbs this substance, leaving it feeling soft and nourished. This is because, unlike most body lotions, which are very emollient and can make you look and feel like a greased cupcake tin, Speed Soak can be fully absorbed into the skin at less than 30 seconds, thanks to its two main ingredients: glycerin and Aquaxyl.

Glycerin is a humectant, which means it keeps skin hydrated by allowing its outer layer to better retain moisture. Aquaxyl is a proprietary blend of ingredients (xylityl glucoside, anhydroxylitol, and xylitol to be exact) that nourish the skin barrier and replenish skin’s moisture levels. Glycerin and Aquaxyl work their magic by providing a super-powerful concentrated shot of hydration and preventing moisture from going anywhere (you may have noticed that other body lotions transfer easily to your clothes or sheets, not this).

This is my first time using a product with Aquaxyl in it, but it is an ingredient that I will now look for every time I buy more body care products. Speed Soak is simply smarter, more efficient skincare that really works and delivers on its promise (which is to give you fast hydration and smooth, healthy skin). It’s like drinking a gallon of water in one sip, but in lotion form.

I’ve never really experienced anything like this, and my normally dry alligator limbs have been ultra-soft all summer long, even after spending days in chlorinated pool water and unforgiving Pacific Ocean salt sand. Function aside, the formula is fragrance-free and comes in a convenient tube that I can toss in my beach bag and not worry about spills. You don’t have to use a lot to get a lot out of it, either: two quarter-sized scoops will do the trick when you’re moisturizing your legs (and even if you go overboard, your skin will never feel soggy or heavy with product).

I am not the only one who has been impressed with the lotion. “I like how it absorbs quickly and leaves skin looking nice and healthy. Within a few days of use, my fiancee commented on how great my skin looks,” says one customer.

Although I can only attest to how it works on my thirty-something complexion, reviewers say it’s great for mature skin as well. A 73-year-old shopper writes, “My skin is older and drier. Not anymore! I’m so thankful I found this product. I’ve only had it for a short time, but I’m already seeing noticeable results, no more.” dry and tight skin. I love that it’s not sticky and absorbs quickly, so it’s not a long moisturizing routine.”

A pro tip I discovered online pointed me to the fact that I should throw the tube in the fridge for a few hours if my skin is especially dry and itchy (either from sun exposure or too much water in the hot tub). After trying it, all I can say is “Thank you, Internet,” because my legs haven’t experienced such bone-chilling happiness in a long, long time.

Speed Soak can be especially good for hot weather, but it’s really effective year-round. After all, smooth, happy skin is never out of season. If you’re thinking of adding three tubes to your cart, I really don’t blame you (in fact, I’m doing the same thing: I have to stick to it before the dry fall air dares to do a number on my skin).
